Safety Measures

Please indicate whether the market will implement the following safety measures for farmers markets and fish markets in DC. Check all that apply

Requirements for market plans depend on the size of the market. Please indicate if you have more than 3 stalls.

Please submit a Market Plan and a Site Plan to comply with the following requirements: (You can upload a .doc or .pdf)

Note: Approved waivers are valid through the rest of the farmers market season. If there are any changes to the market operation or the site plan, you must send an updated market operations plan and site plan to the Office of Planning team at dcfoodpolicy@dc.gov.

All markets:

  • Minimizing queueing and ensuring those in line are at least 6 feet apart
  • Ensuring all tables and tents are at least 10 feet apart
  • Immediately disbursing groups of people that form in public space near the entrances and exits of the market to reduce the risk of requiring closure of the market
  • Ensuring compliance with all public health requirements, including sanitizing and/or hand washing and providing signage on requirements and guidelines

The plan must include:

  • A graphic site plan, uploaded separately
  • An operational plan, including how the above requirements will be addressed
  • A list of all vendors and the types of products offered
  • An immediate shut down plan in the event of inability to meet plan/requirements
  • Optional: photos of how the market is implementing the requirements

Markets with more than 3 stalls:

  • Providing for a single entrance and exit for a one-way flow of customers, whenever possible, including markings for 6 feet of distance
  • Limiting the entrance of customers into the market such that there are no lines at the stalls
  • Eliminating browsing and reducing the number of purchasing options by providing pre-packaged, pre-priced boxes or options
  • Creating a customer flow that includes stalls only on one side, wherever possible
  • Setting a maximum number of people allowed in the market at a time to prevent lines or crowding

The plan must include:

  • A graphic site plan, uploaded separately
  • An operational plan, including how the above requirements will be addressed
  • A list of all vendors and the types of products offered
  • An immediate shut down plan in the event of inability to meet plan/requirements
  • Optional: photos of how the market is implementing the requirements
  • Maximum capacity for markets with more than three vendors
