DC DGS - Public Art Design Honorarium

If the Artist is selected for Round 2 (Site Specific Design Proposals), the Artist agrees to this DESIGN HORORARIUM AGREEMENT.

Model.  The Artist agrees to provide a model of public art for the commissions for which he/she was selected and he/she accepts.

If the artwork being commissioned is 3-dimensional, the model must be 3-dimensional and/or a CAD file.  If the artwork being commissioned is a painting or illustration, then the model must be a painting or illustration (in other words, DGS will NOT accept a graphic design for what is to become a painting or illustration).  If the artwork being commissioned is a graphic design, then a graphic design may be submitted as a model.

The Artist hereby warrants that the design and the artwork do not infringe upon any copyrights, title or interest, and hereby indemnifies DC Department of General Services (“DGS”) and the District of Columbia Government against any infringement. The winning Model will be the property of DGS.  However, the Artist shall retain the copyright.

If the Artist is selected as the winning finalist for the commission, the Artist hereby grants to DGS an irrevocable license to reproduce the image of the model to promote the DGS’s percent for art program.  Upon request, DGS will return the model to the Artist for reference during fabrication; however, the Artist must return the original model back to DGS once the Artwork has been completed.  The Artist shall present the model in person at the panel review.  There will be 5 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers.  The Artist shall bring the Model AND all supporting materials with you – to avoid any damage during shipping.

  1. Price.   If the artist is selected to present a site specific design proposal, the Artist shall be paid $500.00 per each submitted proposal.  If the Artist lives outside of Washington, D.C., Maryland or Virginia, the artist will be provided a one-time $500 travel stipend.
  2. Delivery/Completion Date.   The services that are the subject of this Honorarium Agreement shall be completed by the date of the site specific proposal date.
