Chancellor Search Survey

Please take this survey to tell us what you believe is most important for the Mayor to consider as she selects the next Chancellor of DCPS.

Q1. Are you a...

Q2. What ward do you live in?

Q4. Please select one of the statements below that best describes your feelings today about DCPS and provide examples.

Part I – Background

In 2016, Mayor Bowser and the Deputy Mayor for Education led an extensive community engagement process as part of the search for a DCPS Chancellor. The Mayor established the DCPS Rising Leadership Advisory Committee, and feedback was gathered through three community engagement forums, an online survey, and stakeholder calls to solicit input from hundreds of residents across all 8 wards about the qualities in a Chancellor most important to them. Community feedback and recommendations were summarized in the Chancellor Search Community Engagement Report that was released in October 2016. We encourage you to review this report, as we will reference the recommendations captured in this document throughout the survey.

Similarly, the feedback you provide today will be shared with the Our Schools Leadership Advisory Committee—established in 2018 to advise the Mayor on her selection of the DCPS Chancellor—and will be compiled in a final Chancellor search report that will be submitted to the Mayor.

Part II – DCPS Priorities

In August 2017, DCPS released a new strategic plan, A Capital Commitment 2017-2022, following several months of engaging with thousands of teachers, students, families, and other community members. You may also see that many of the priorities identified in the last Chancellor search are mirrored in the strategic plan.

As the Mayor considers the selection of a DCPS Chancellor, it would be helpful to understand your perspective on DCPS’s current priorities, outlined below.

Q5. Please tell us which priority you believe the next Chancellor should most focus their efforts on. In the text box, you can tell us why you selected the priority or if there are other priorities you believe DCPS should focus on instead of or in addition to those below.

Part III – Chancellor Selection Priorities

Given the priorities outlined in DCPS’s strategic plan (or that you have identified), as well as the direction you feel DCPS is headed in, please tell us which of the qualities, skills, and experiences identified in the last Chancellor search are most important to you.

Q6. Please rank order these desired qualities, skills, and experiences you hope to see in a Chancellor, from #1 being most important to you, to #5 least important—you may also provide additional attributes in the text box below.
