In-School Youth Leadership Program Application (College)

Important things to consider in the process of applying to the In-school Youth Leadership Program:

  • You MUST complete the application in one session.  You cannot save an incomplete application.
  • Review the entire application and gather all resources you will need to successfully complete the application. These are the resources and they MUST be attached to the application:
    • Unofficial transcript. 
    • Two letters from school officials such as a department chair, advisor, etc. Both letters should provide the following information.
      If you cannot secure a letter, an email from two school officials with the required information will be sufficient. Please send the email to adrienne.douglas@dc.gov
      • Why should we accept you as an applicant in this leadership program?
      • What is your status as a student?
      • What is your major and current GPA
    • Professional resume
    • A well-written Word essay document of 1000-1200 words. Use the Microsoft office word counter. You must enter your name and school on the word document. In the essay, you are expected to answer the following questions:
      • How will this internship prepare you for your future career goals?
      • How will you prioritize your personal obligations, academic commitments, and extracurricular activities during this internship?
      • During your experiences, while attending college, give an example when you demonstrated that you have leadership ability and skill?
      • What will you bring to the table that will have the biggest impact during your internship?
         
  • The application will be deemed incomplete if any field is empty and or not fully answered. The application will also be deemed incomplete and not acceptable if any of the four attachments are missing.
  • Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.

An essay must be at least 1000 to a maximum of 1200 words. Use the word counter in Microsoft Office word.

Your essays must demonstrate the following:

  • Logic, thought process, and ability to analyze
  • Grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Organizations and clarity of argument or thought
